Barry Reeves Teel was born on July 28, 1942 in Hope NM to George and Madie Teel. His family was prominent in ranching and Barry excelled in FFA and other agriculture related activities as a youth. He graduated from Artesia HS and then moved on to enroll at NMSU, ultimately completing his degree in 1968. While attending NMSU he was engaged in the Aggie Rodeo Club and served as an officer in several student organizations. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and trained as a Cryptologic Technician. After training he was assigned to the Naval Communications Station at Finnegayan Gulf in Guam. The role of the station was to support the warfighting effort thru the collection and processing of airborne, shipborne and land based radar systems. Those signals were then analyzed and high power jamming signals were developed with the intent to deceive and defeat radar guided weapons systems. On September 26, 1969, while stationed at NCS Finnegayan Gulf, Barry Reeves Teel suffered a brain aneurism which took his life. He is buried at the Woodbine cemetery at Artesia NM. Barry Reeves Teel was 27 years of age when he died while in the service of our nation.
