Corporal Rodney Roy Sorenson
Rodney Roy Sorenson was born in Kansas City MO on September 30, 1943 to Roy and Bernice Sorenson. In 1936 the family moved to Dallas TX where Rodney graduated from Adamson HS. In the fall of 1942 he enrolled at NMAMC to study Business Administration. After his first semester he left school to enlist in the USAAF in December 1942. He was selected to be an instructor in flexible gunnery school in April 1944, but by January 1945 he was known to be flying in the China Burma India Theater as a radio operator on a transport flying the hump into China. We believe that he was aboard C-109 #44-49050, believed to be assigned to the 9th Air Transport Squadron, 134th AAF Base Unit, when it crashed near Chengdu China on January 19, 1945, killing all aboard. His body was later returned and he was buried in Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas TX in 1949. Corporal Rodney Roy Sorenson was 20 years old at the time of his death.
